Elizabeth Rouse Research Questions

After reviewing the information that I have so far for her, I have come up with some research questions and ideas.

Questions Needing Researched For Elizabeth Rouse:
1. When and where was she born?
2. Who are the parents of Elizabeth Rouse?
3. When and where did Elizabeth die? Where is she buried
4. Was she baptized? If so, what religion and are there church records of this?
5. What census records am I still missing for her?
6. Where there state census records she may appear in?
7. Are there any County/Local Histories for where she lived during those time periods?
8. Are there any published family histories for Rouse family?

Next To Do: Make a list of US Federal Census records that Meedy Lamb should appear in and locate one.

Reuben Lamb Family – 1830 US Federal Census?

While looking over the 1830 census, I found one that I BELIEVE to be his family. Let’s take a look and you will see why I said “believe”…

1830: 1830 US Federal Census; Georgia, Twiggs County, p86

MALES:
Under 5: 1 (Floyd)
5-9: 1 (Franklin)
10-14: 1 (James)
30-39: 1 (Reuben)
FEMALES:
Under 5: 2 (Who are these 2?)
5-9: 1 (Again, no idea)
30-39: (Elizabeth)

Reasons I believe this to be the correct family:

  • They are in the area I would expect them to be in.
  • All the males fit again, as does Elizabeth.
  • There are several familiar family names around them

Questions:

  • The females do not fit again!
  • This really leads me to wonder if I am missing some daughters in the gaps of kids that I do know about… if so, who are they???

NEXT TO DO: I think it is time to make a list of the remaining questions and come up with a research plan for Reuben Clark Lamb!

1840 US Federal Census – Reuben Lamb Household

I am once again (hopefully for the last time) changing the direction of this blog… I am going to research one family at a time. Starting with Reuben Clark Lamb and his family. This makes much more sense to me than jumping from family to family… sorry about the mess!

I have located what I believe to be Reuben’s family in the 1840 US Federal Census. I say believe to be, because it is not a perfect fit and will lead me to more questions… here is what I mean:

1840: 1840 US Federal Census; Georgia; Twiggs County; District 354; p376,

MALES:
Under 5: 2 (Andrew & Thomas)
5-Under 10: 1 (George)
10 & Under 15: 1 (Floyd)
15 & Under 20: 1 (Franklin)
40 & Under 50: 1 (Reuben)
FEMALES:
10 & Under 15: 2 (Nancy should be about 7? and who is other one?
40 & Under 50: 1 (Elizabeth)

There are a few reasons I believe this is the right family:

  1. The males all fit perfectly, as does Elizabeth.
  2. They are living right next to Meedy Lamb and a couple doors down from Henry Lamb.
  3. This is the right area for them to be in.

Which leads me to the questions!

  • Females age 10 & Under 15
    • Nancy should only be about 7, this does not fit.
    • There is no other female that I have record of that would fit in this category at all!
    • There is a big gap in birth years between Franklin & Floyd, and also between Floyd & Nancy. Am I missing someone here?

Each new find seems to bring me more and more questions… I love that about Family History!!

1850 U. S. Federal Census – Reuben Lamb Household

In 1850 Reuben Lamb was living in Twiggs County, Georgia. I found the census Record, but it leads me to more questions…

Here is an extraction of the information I found:

1850 US Federal Census; Georgia; Twiggs County; Division 84;p199 (Stamped); Family 678; lines 21-29

obtained from ancestry.com

obtained from ancestry.com

1. Reuben Lamb, 50 years old, male, farmer, real estate worth $1800, born in North Carolina.
2. Mary Lamb, 54 years old, female, born in Georgia.
3. Franklin Lamb, 29 years old, male, farmer, born in Georgia.
4. Floyd Lamb, 24 years old, male, farmer, born in Georgia.
5. George Lamb, 16 years old, male, farmer, born in Georgia.
6. Jackson Lamb, 15 years old, male, farmer, born in Georgia.
7. Thomas Lamb, 12 years old, male, farmer, born in Georgia.
8. Sarah Lamb, 9 years old, female, born in Georgia.
9. Nancy Ann Lamb, 17 years old, female, born in Georgia.

Most of this makes sense and does fit with what I was given. There are a few things I need to remember or figure out from this census.

  • Who is Mary Lamb? Reuben’s wife died in 1846, did he remarry? Is it a relative living with him to help him take care of the kids?
  • Why is Nancy Ann Lamb listed below all his other children? Sometimes this happens when the child is not the child of the parents. Is she not his child? Hmm….
  • I have that Floyd Lamb was born about 1819 and Franklin Lamb was born about 1821. According to this census, Floyd’s age is incorrect and he is actually younger than Franklin.

I think I will try to find Floyd in the 1860 U.S. Federal Census and check the age on that one.
